WOWS: Women of the Woodlands - June 2014
Women
of the
WoodlandsOur installation of officers luncheon deliciously ended the club year at the yacht club on May 14th. Barbara Karolevitz chaired the event. Officers for the 2014-15 year are:

Mary Jean Sandberg: President;
Susan Ruscheinski: Vice-president;
Earline Churbuck: Secretary;
Reni Slepka: Treasurer.

For the past two years, Margaret Mardyniak and Jean Pallato served as president & secretary. These ladies enlivened the WOWS with new programs, projects and fabulous food. With their creative ideas and all out energy, the club grew, supported charitable causes and put the wow in The WOWS. We are so grateful to them.

During summer months, a few WOW sponsored activities will continue:

Bridge: Mondays at 12:30;
Dominoes: Fridays at 10:00;
Couples Bridge: 3rd Tuesdays at 7:00;
Bunco: 2nd Wednesdays at 7:00;
Pool Exercise: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:00.

Circle the 2nd Tuesday of September (the 9th) at 1:00 for the first meeting of the new’s an Ice Cream Social.

All ladies residing in the Woodlands are encouraged to attend and socialize. It’s a wonderful way to turn neighbors into friends.

WOWS: Women of the Woodlands - May 2014
Women
of the
WoodlandsOur luau can only be described as a feast for the senses! Cathe, Margaret, Reni and Susan transformed the meeting room into a feast for the eyes. Their festive decor created a virtual 'tropical paradise", and the guests added to the ambiance b,/ dressing in their most colorful island apparel. The Hawaiian music was a feast for the ears...and Kalani kept us on our toes with a lesson on how to do a hula dance. We even had a "hula" hoop contest...with prizes for the winners!!

Ginny and Doris concocted a very tasty rum & pineapple punch, and let's can I describe the feast of food that was prepared for our palates by Jean Pallatto and her crew of Doris, Diana, Barbara K., Marrianne, Ginny,and Joyce C. First off I can tell you it was abundant! Then I'll tell you it was scrumptious. The marinated chicken kabobs were succulent. The fried rice was fragrant with aroma. The spring rolls were crisp and flavorful: the boneless pork ribs were tender and juicy: the fresh fruit bowls (pictured here) were ripe and tasty. Last...but not least...was the variety of choices at the spectacular dessert table. My goodness! These ladies really know how to cook and bake.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who helped to make this party such a success. As I said that night in my welcome speech... "IT TAKES A VILLAGE". And it certainly took the myriad talents of the entire club to make this final party of the year the outstanding success that it was.

We are currently taking reservations for the May officer installation luncheon being held at the Gulf Harbors Yacht Club. The date is Wednesday, May 14 at 12 noon. The cost is $14.50. Call MaryJean Sandberg or Barbara K. or me for menu information and to reserve your spot.

Yours in friendship, Margaret Mardyniak

WOWS: Women of the Woodlands - April 2014
Women
of the
Woodlands
Kathe, Dorothy, Joyce and Pat made sure there was plenty of green beer and ruben sandiches to celebrate the wearin'-of-the-green at last month's WOW meeting. We raised our glasses high in salute to a meeting well served!

Committees have been selected for the luau we are hosting on Tuesday, April 8 at 5pm. You will be receiving a reminder call during the week previous to that date of the job you signed up for. Reservations were closed for this event on March 25th.

The nominating committee announced the new slate of officers for the 2014-15 season. Mary Jean Sandberg will serve as President, Susan Ruscheinski will stay on as Vice President, Earline Churbuck will be the new Secretary, and Reni Slepka will remain as treasurer. There will be an installation luncheon to swear in these officers on Wednesday, May 14th at 12 noon at the Gulf Harbors Yacht Club. The cost of the luncheon will be $14.50 (which includes tax & tip). A sign up sheet with menu choices will be available during the luau. Those not attending the luau can call Margaret or Mary Jean to reserve a space.

The April book club meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22nd at 1pm at Reni Slepka's. The title of the book that will be discussed is "The Orphan Train" by C.B. Kline.

It has been a pleasure for me to serve as President of this great group of ladies for the past two years. I am proud to be a part of the fiber of this wonderful community called "The Woodlands at Gulf Harbors."

Sincerely, Margaret Mardyniak,
President, Women Of the Woodlands

WOWS: Women of the Woodlands - January 2014
Women
of the
WoodlandsLike the beautiful ornaments on a Christmas tree, the Women of the Woodlands turned out in their finest to enjoy the wonderful lunch Chef Dave prepared for us at the Gulf Harbors Yacht Club last month. A heartfelt thanks to Shirley, Carol and Joyce for a job well done.

The community yard sale that will be held at the clubhouse (one day only) on Saturday, Jan. 25th is open to anyone living in the Woodlands. There are still tables available at the clubhouse that you can reserve at a cost of $10 per table. If you prefer to participate at your own home, we will put you on a map that will be handed out at the clubhouse and provide you with a helium balloon for your mailbox at a cost of $5 per household. Please contact Margaret Mardyniak at 727-645-5609 as soon as possible if you wish to participate.

The next book club meeting will be Wed. Jan. 8th at Mary Jean Sandberg's. Members were asked to select any book they wanted about the Kennedys. With the multitude of books, both complimentary and critical about this extended family, this could turn out to be one lively discussion!

Dorothy Hamilton is looking for additional women who would like to play scrabble on Fridays along with the domino group from 10 to noon. Please call her at 813-468-4994 if you want to take part in a scrabble game.

The next regular scheduled meeting of the WOW's is Tuesday, Jan. 14th at 1pm. The refreshment committee has not yet been assigned.

See you in 2014... Margaret Mardyniak, President

WOWS: Women of the Woodlands - November 2013
Women
of the
WoodlandsThere were both "real" and imaginary "witches" and "goblins" whooping it up at the October WOW meeting. The committee did a great job decorating the clubhouse and serving up some delectable spooky treats along with their customary wine and cheese selections.

The club has selected Wednesday, December 4 for a group trip to see the Holiday Lights at the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo. Margaret currently has a list of 18 women who would like to participate and will call each individual to confirm their space in a car the week before the trip. If you have not yet signed up or wish to add a friend or companion please call Margaret.

Our next meeting on Tues., Nov. 12 at 1pm will be a "trim-the-tree" and cookie exchange. Please bring at least 24 cookies for consumption during the meeting AND another 24 to 30 so that each member can take one home with them along with a copy of the recipe.

We will have a guest speaker, Andrea Lancaster, from the PACE Center for Girls who will speak to us on a project they are undertaking called "Santa for Seniors".

Once again....I want to commend the membership for the generous assortment of donations that were collected for the local SPCA. Doris and I delivered them last week.

Sincerely, Margaret

As I begin a second year as President of the Women of the Woodlands social club, I want to express a warm welcome to our new Vice President, Susan Ruscheinski and our new Treasurer, Reni Slepka (both pictured above). I would also like to welcome aboard the four new members that joined us during last month's ice cream social where we were treated to a visit from the Gulf Harbors Woodlands Association President, Debbie Leone who headed a lively discussion about the proposed changes to the Woodlands covenants.
Women
of the
WoodlandsWomen Of the Woodlands “ROCK” was the theme for the installation luncheon held at the Gulf Harbors Yacht Club May 15th. It was chosen by the board to give honor to every single member of the club who were as “spectacular” as “rock-stars” during this past year with their impressive donations to The Suncoast Animal Shelter, Toys for Tots collection, Metropolitan Ministries Thanksgiving Food Drive, and The Salvation Army’s Women’s Center…all collected while still having fun socializing! Ladies, know that your generosity has helped make a difference in the lives of so many who are less fortunate…I salute you!!!!

Mary Jean Sandberg, the club’s Parliamentarian, swore in the new Vice President, Susan Ruscheinski, and re-instated both Jean Pallatto (Secretary) and Margaret Mardyniak (President) for second terms. Reni Slepka, the new Treasurer was not present for the swearing-in ceremonies. Some very “unusual” thank you gifts were presented to Margaret for her leadership during this past year.

There will be a book club meeting on Tuesday, June 25th at 1pm at Cathe Rymshaw’s home. The book to be discussed is The Kite Runner. Anyone who would like to join this group or attend the meeting can call Mary Jean Sandberg for directions.

Bunco night in June has been cancelled due to so many of its participants going out of town. The next Bunco night is scheduled to be held in July on Wednesday, July 10th.

Women Of the Woodlands will not meet again until Tuesday, September 10th to kick off the 2013-14 season with it’s annual ice cream social.

Membership is open to all female residents (including former residents) of the community. Your input for promoting club activities is most welcome. Please call Margaret Mardyniak with ideas for next year’s agenda to be discussed over the summer.

Wishing you health….and well-being,
Margaret Mardyniak, President.

WOWS: Women of the Woodlands - May 2013
Women
of the
WoodlandsSo many dishes to choose from…so little time! That must have been what the ladies were thinking when they approached the buffet table at the April annual “covereddish” luncheon. Once again, the members outdid themselves with a sumptuous array of delectable dishes filled with meatballs, sausage & peppers, fried chicken, spring rolls, salads, desserts…and oooohhhh those Texas potatoes!!

Barbara K. and Marianne F. certainly did one heck of a job calling and organizing such an outstanding event. And to all those members who out-did themselves with their culinary creations…we’ll meet you at the bathroom scale.

Plans were finalized for the Hard Rock Casino bus trip for Thursday, May 23rd. The cost is $20 (payable in advance). The bus will pick us up at our clubhouse parking lot at 8:15am and will leave the Casino promptly at 3:15pm. The trip is open to all residents, members and guests. Please call Margaret M. to make a confirmed reservation or to answer any questions.

Our next, and final, meeting of the 2012/13 season is the installation luncheon on Wednesday, May 15th, 12 noon at the Gulf Harbors Yacht Club. Cost is $13.50 which includes tax, tip and dessert. Please call Barbara K. for menu selection and to make a reservation.

The book club has opted to continue to meet during the summer months. May’s book choice is Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. The discussion will be held at Earline Churbuck’s on Tuesday, May 21st at 1:00pm. Please call Earline for directions to her home.

Our final charitable collection for the year is in progress for the Salvation Army’s Center of Hope Women’s shelter. Collection baskets are located in the clubhouse along with lists of items needed. We will be accepting donations until May 15th. When I spoke with the director there, she told me that the Sweetbay stores that closed recently were one of their main sources of food donations…and that since that resource has dried up, they are now in desperate need of food. Please find it in your hearts to consider donating to this worthy cause.

Looking forward to a relaxing summer on the Gulf.

Yours in friendship,

Margaret, President.
