If anyone has seen her or picked her up, please, please, please contact us at 727-359-9572. Thank you one and all! Sue Cave

Fishing Club: Fish Tales Fishing Club News - January

Gulf Harbors
Meetings Every Third Thursday at 7 p.m.

As we approached the Holiday season our last meeting of the year was long but exciting. We wish all of the GHCA residents a Happy New Year. The Fishing Club continues to grow with one new member (Mike Napier) at our last meeting. We had twenty-one members attend the December meeting.

Captain Larry Lavin explained and demonstrated how to cast a bait net. It was very helpful. He showed us how to cast and told us where the best areas are to cast, and for what types of bait. He also gave tips on what his favorite chum is for the various baits. Did you know that for certain bait fish he a grits mix? These were just some of the things you can learn at our meetings.

We plan on having an educational speaker at every meeting. If you want to learn more about how to fish and where to fish, then attend our meetings. Mark Morningstar has done an excellent job on contacting and scheduling great speakers.

Fishing in the past few months has been excellent with many members telling us about the Grouper, Reds, Trout, Cobia, etc that they caught. Among the highlights, Steve Stein caught a sailfish near

Gulf Harbors Fishing Club
Meetings Every Third Thursday at 7 p.m.

By Bob Richute - Secretary

We all survuved the Gulf Harbors Fishing Club Garage Sale and are into the Holiday season. We hope all GHCA residents had a Happy Holidays and a have a Happy New Year.

The Fishing Club continues to grow, four new members at our last meeting. We welcome Jim Humlicek, Beth Buschart, Tina Ritchhart and Tom Weist.

Ken Jones, also known as the “The Saltwater Fishing Coach” was our November guest speaker. He spoke about night fishing. He explained how night fishing is no different than day fishing except it is a bit less crowded on the waterways, the fish are still there, and still very hungry. Ken told us that the bait he uses is the same but the fish are not as spooked The best fishing is at full moon with high tides. You can get four to six hours of good fishing on an incoming tidal flow at night. Best places to fish are still around those oyster beds where you have some flowing water. The snook and redfish love those areas at night too. The tidal flow is very important to the fish since it provides movement, and the flow also expands the area of smell from your bait.

Mangrove snapper are also a good bite at night. The bigger snappers are more apt to attack your bait near the mangroves in the still of the night.

The club continue to get new members. Of the 34 people attending the meeting we had four new members as indicated earlier. Everyone is invited (men , women and children). Social time starts at 6:30, meeting starts at 7:00. We are planning several family outings this year. Come to the meetings so we can get your input.

We had a lot of positive fishing reports last month. Many reporting going out and catching their limits of grouper, Trout , Cobia and Mackeral. Fall fishing is still real good.

Gulf Harbors
Apparently we once again have people stopping at houses offering services, however it seems they are targeting the elderly (again!!!). This time it has been reported that there are 2 men offering to do maintenance work, or gardening, etc. The one homeowner was approached 3 times for different work to be done. These men often ask to be paid up front, and then leave without doing the work. Or, do a sloppy job and demand payment.

This is just a general reminder for homeowners to be aware. The Sheriff’s office has already been notified about this and they will be patrolling.

Remember, there are many reputable contractors available to do work in Gulf Harbors. Ask your neighbors and friends for recommendations. Ask contractors to produce their business licenses, anyone doing work for pay legally will have one. Also, GHCA has a list of businesses that have offered Gulf Harbors Residents a discount to use their services.

Our membership director wants us to remember to support those businesses on the REWARDS LIST – they even offer discounts to members (membership card required to receive the discount).

Call the office for more information. Submitted by: Dulce Meyer

Gulf HarborsAt the March meeting there were 40 members and guests, the club is growing in members and interest. The guest speaker was Capt. Art Ickenberg of West Marine and Boat US. He brought in and demonstrated many safety items that should be on our boats. Life vests, flares and flare guns, radio, GPS, ditch bag, and other items, with explanations of what they were and how they worked.

Everyone wonders how an inflatable life vest works, so .... Capt. Art had one of our members put one on. He asked him to pull the line, rather than toss him in
