Meeting Minutes: A DONATION

Life on
the GulfA DONATION

CHRIS NOCCO, SHERIFF & ED PRYLL, VP

When Gulf Harbors Civic Association finds a worthy organization, we always put our money where our mouth is and Thursday night at the General Meeting (March 1) was no exception.

Pictured is our Pasco Sheriff accepting a check for $250 on behalf of the Pasco Police Athletic League PPAL).

We appreciate our officers and the work they do with us and for us.

NO MORE LINDRICK?

Life on
the Gulf

POTENTIAL SALE OF LINDRICK

The era of Lindrick as our purveyor of water and sewer services is likely coming to an end.

On Oct 20, 2009, the Pasco County Commissioners gave the 'go ahead' to the Florida Governmental Utilities Authority, FGUA, to complete their assessment and evaluation of the Lindrick system (known as "Due Diligence") and to present a purchase contract to the FGUA Board for approval. Even though money is 'tight' with U.S. financial markets still recovering from the severe downturn in 2008, there is hope that this purchase deal can be 'done' in the next couple of months.

Early Morning Visitor

Life on
the Gulf

FORAGING FOR SUNDAY BREAKFAST

It was an early Sunday in March, and the tide was really quite low. The nearby creek was reduced to a trickle coming out from the nature preserve into the South Channel wetlands, too shallow for the diving mergansers to forage for food. So what was that shiny little brown head heading out toward the channel? It swam right along, diving and surfacing to get a breath.

It turns out that besides the new eagle nest in Gulf Harbors we have a local (sea? river?) otter as a neighbor.

He was last seen heading west!

PS. Here's a webpage from the Clearwater Marine Aquarium about an adopted otter that they have:

Social & Hobby Clubs: HOBBY CLUB UPDATE

Life on
the Gulf

What Have the Ladies In Hobby Club Been Up To?

Christmas has come and gone and another year is upon us. Everyone is making New Year's Resolutions, even Hobby Club

We would love to increase our membership. We have a wonderful time visiting and sharing our diverse talents. Over the years, our membership has dwindled. And this year was no different. We really want to make everyone feel welcome,. no matter how skilled or unskilled you feel you are. We especially want to encourage younger women to join. Even if you can't come every week, we would love to count you in our ranks. I know your lives are hectic. But, if you at all enjoy crafting (or just visiting with a bunch of gossipy women), please consider adding Thursday morning with hobby club to your schedule.

SOMETHING GREAT IS HAPPENING IN GULF HARBORS

Life on
the GulfSomething GREAT is happening in Gulf Harbors. Have you noticed the two landscaped islands as you enter the Community. These islands were planted and landscaped for FREE by Annette Silva owner of Landscapes Unlimited. I went and saw Annette and asked if she was interested in donating some plants for the islands. She agreed to landscape one island but instead did two. Way to go Annette!! As you know Ken Krchmarik, the owner of Landscape Designs, landscaped the Monument at cost and continues with its maintenance for FREE.

NEW BOAT RAMP LOCKS

Gulf Harbors Institutes New System With Non-Duplicatable Keys

On Wednesday, May 3, 2006, the new key system for the Gulf Harbors boat ramps was officially installed. On hand were Ralph Hanus, the GHCA Boat Ramp Supervisor, Pat Pfaff, GHCA President, and Irene Marcott, GHCA Secretary. Norm Ritz from ARO Lock and Key in New Port Richey provided the new lock and shackle while Mike Groff, Groff Welding, welded the padlock to the chain, and the chain to the gate.

The new hardware is heavy duty and marine grade. According to Norm Ritz, the padlock is manufactured by ABUS and has a shrouded shackle with a MEDECO "Key Marks" cylinder which has non-duplicatable key control. The padlock itself is brass-bodied with a chromium-plated shackle and the chain is a super hardened, no crack, chain.

If you a Civic Association member and would like to purchase a key, please call the Gulf Harbors Office at 848-0596.

Gulf Harbors Security

Life on
the Gulf

From Our SECURITY PATROL

Here we are in the summer months. The roads have been paved and are nice and smooth now BUT that doesn't mean we can go faster than 30 mph, which a lot of people still do. For the sake of our children who are now out of school, our walkers and bikers, and each other, PLEASE DO NOT SPEED.

The Gulf Harbors Security Patrol needs people to drive and to do desk duty. You can volunteer for just 3 hours, for as little as once a month, either day time or night. Security does help, but like the sheriff, it is hard to be in every place at once. Having lots of people donating a few hours every month can really help. If you think you can find 3 hours now and then and are interested in neighborhood security, call Bob Greytak at 843-8274.
