Fishing Club: Gulf Harbors Fishing Club Feb 2013

Gulf HarborsOur December 20th meeting was attended by a group of 21 people including three new members, Jack Goodman, Don Perry and Stu Johnson. Our guest speakers were Wendy and Bruce Longman from Windsong Charters. Wendy and Bruce spoke about the effect of ethanol on marine engines as well as what Windsong Charters was about.

Windsong charters all types of boats up to 28 foot including outboards, pontoons and sailboats. They can also arrange for

fishing excursions. During the meeting Fishing Club officers were elected as shown below:

President: Ron Klapperich
Treasurer: Bob Ray
Vice President: Steve Stein
Secretary: Bob Richute

Everyone in attendance discussed their fishing successes with many people catching Grouper, Mackerel and Kings.

There still seems to be an abundance of trout, lady fish and grunts out there as well. Butch Kurfees caught grouper and a bunch of Grunts off the north part of Anclote Island. Several members also said that Speckled Trout were hitting live bait in the flats near the power plant.

Key dates to remember:
January 17th - We will have two speakers from Fisherman's World. One will cover Winter Fishing in "Our" Gulf Waters. The other will cover Reel maintenance and Repair. And, thanks to Windsong Charters, a free pontoon boat rental will be part of the January raffle.

February 21st - Captain Joe Mace of Saltwater Sport Fishing will be our guest speaker. Capt. Joe is based out of the Cottee River in Port Richey. He has years of fishing experience in our local waters. He'll be talking about "what's biting this time of year". Be sure to attend this very informative session.

Gulf Harbors Fishing Club Meetings are the third Thursday of the month.
They are held at the Gulf Harbors Civic Center - Meetings begin at 7:00 PM
Doors open @ 6:30 so we can mingle - Feel free to bring something to drink.
