Woodlands' own Marisa Anfuso is part of Anclote Elementary School’s Odyssey of the Mind team. The team is made up of 7 students in 4th and 5th grades.

“Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving oppor- tunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to present- ing their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the lo- cal, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.” www.odysseyofthemind.com
For the first time ever, Anclote’s team placed 2nd Place in the regional competition and has now gained a spot in the Florida State Finals for a chance at going to World Competition. The State competition requires a financial commitment of our Anclote students’ families for lodging and food for the weekend of April 13 – 15, 2012. The competition rules state that our team may solicit donations and sponsor- ships from local businesses, fund raising and family and friends. Since the State competition falls during Spring Break and is held near UCF’s campus in Orlando, lodging expenses are not very competitive. Anclote Elementary is a Title I school, where 75% of our students receive free or reduced priced lunches and this expense is difficult for much of the team.

Therefore, a coffee can is set up in the Woodlands Office for any donations that you might spare. These students have all worked very hard since October 2011 to get this far and could really use your help.

If you can make a donation, you may drop it off at the office. Donations will be accepted until Friday, April 6th. If you wish to write a check, you may make the check payable to Anclote Elementary School. Thank you in advance for helping these terrific children in their goals. Should you have any questions, please feel free to Tina at 848-4750.
