 GHCA Official: GHCA Chairman Update

GHCA ArticlesI would like to start by introducing the Gulf Harbors Civic Association Officers and Board as of the January GHCA Membership Meeting - Installation Dinner.

Mike Wittl …………………... President
Ed Pryll ……………………….. Vice President
open …………………………… Board Secretary
Art Haedike ………………… Treasurer
Ron Klapperich ……………. Chairman of the Board
Dick Lemke ………………… Bingo Director
Nancy Kerr ………………….. Communications Director
Gail Engelschjon…………… Hall Rental Director
open …………………………… Maintenance Director
JoAnn Milano ………….….. Membership Director
David Lanigan …………..… Public Relations
Rosemary Thompson ….. Ways & Means Director

Since the elections and installation dinner the two open board positions have been filled. Dulce Meyer was nominated and sworn in at the February board meeting as Board Secretary and John Brown as Director of Maintenance.

We thank them for accepting and welcome them to the board. For the first time in many months, all the board positions were filled and all officers and directors were present. Some members have said it indicates there’s a change in the air and that your new board is interested in supporting the association and its members. Although the six new board members, including myself, are in the process of learning the ropes they are already active and working in the interests of the GHCA members and betterment of the Gulf Harbors community.

Unfortunately…. shortly after the February board meeting our Director of Membership, JoAnn Milano, tendered a letter of registration, effective June 1st unless the position can be filled before then. JoAnn has done a wonderful job with mailings to GHCA residents soliciting them to pay their association dues.

This year, through her efforts, she has increased the number of new members. We’ll miss her, and her enthusiasm and work ethic. Well done, JoAnn!

Pursuant to the above your Nominating Committee began searching for members interested in accepting nomination for the directorship. In their search they nominated Roger Parker, a retired banker from Colorado, to the board. A vote was taken. Roger was elected and will be sworn in as Director of Membership during the March board meeting. JoAnn said she will work with Roger and familiarize him with the membership data base, files, letters, etc.

Other things that have or are happening:

Beatification Committee – Chaired by Irene Marcott. This committee is busy cleaning up the entrance to Gulf Harbors (hard to do with the construction there), the roadway islands and the Civic Center. Members of committee include: Rick Arnold, Pat Pfaff, Ruth-Elin Riley, and Dave Thomson. You will see the difference but, they could use a helping hand to lighten the load. Most of it is light work. Give them an hour of your time, that’s all they/we ask. You’ll feel better after lending a helping hand. Irene, call me and let me know when I can help out.

House & Grounds Committee – Irene Marcott, and the above have accepted appointment by VP Ed Pryll, to this committee. You can’t keep good people from working. They will inspect the GHCA properties for any maintenance that may be required and report it to Ed and John Brown, Director of Maintenance.

Nominating Committee – Also chaired by Irene Marcott. They’ve already been called upon to nominate candidates to fill open board positions this year. Members of the committee: Lynn Grande, Kay Hilgen, Annette Mercantini and Rose Newport. We hope this committee will be have a hiatus until fall when they’ll look for and nominate candidates for GHCA election in December.

Also in the works is appointing members to the Long Range Planning Committee and forming a Bylaws Committee. If interested contact me or Mike Wittl.

Fishing Club – The club is in the process of reforming, see Fishing Tales article in this issue of LOTG.

Breakfast Club (Pancake Breakfast), Card Club, Hobby Club, and Social Club are always active. Black & White Affair - Jackie McCullers and Tea & Fashion Show – Eileen Massler, both where great events that they and their committees hosted. And how can you beat the breakfast Barbara McCrum and her crew put on the table?

Bingo – After a tough year has realigned its focus, modified the Wednesday program, and is scheduling special bingo games on some of the holiday weekends. They have high expectations to meet their budget in 2012. A check to the GHCA the end of January met their January budget. Good job!

Looking forward – In March there’s Greek Fest, Card Club Luncheon, and a special St. Patrick’s Day Bingo session. In April the Easter Egg Hunt. Look for articles in LOTG.

Yes, there’s a lot going on in Gulf Harbors and the GHCA needs everyone’s participation and “dues” to make a go of it.

Help make Gulf Harbors the best community on the Gulf Coast.

Ron Klapperich – GHCA COB

PS – Mike Wittl, needing to find time for GHCA between moving and running his business (yes, he’s a working man) is doing a fantastic job as President. Hang in there Mike, we’re behind you.
